The paint code for "Gris fumé (smoke gray)" is 1396 (HB for Herbol, CO for Duco), identical to Citroën car's "Gris Espadon (Swordfish Gray)" (AC 76 RD).

Born in 1974, this pain was first reserved for the Parc de l'Elysée in Villacoublay until 1978.

In 1979, the code 1396 replace the 1383 "Pierre de Lune" for all the commercial offer.

In 1980, Duco selected a sole supplier for linear 35 (604, 504, 505), End for "HB" code, starting to "CO" Code.

Application in 2 layers with protective varnish (metallic).

Please can you explain more what this means? It sounds very interesting.

My 604 left the factory 27/01/1976.
It is painted Brun Met 1387, but the car needs a total respray.
I don't like Brun Met very much. My favourite colour is Gris Fumee, with my second choice probably being Vert Torrent Met 1394.

I have a brochure of some kind called "Portrait of a great car", "Peugeot 604 SL V6". This brochure has no date, but the pictures are of an early car, as it has a round petrol filler door, three spoke steering wheel, and clear front corner indicators.
